Founding attorney Bresee serves as the backbone of our firm’s practice. Colin obtained his Juris Doctor in 1992 and has been in practice ever since.

During law school, he served on the Law Review and earned recognition for his advocacy work. Those early experiences helped shape the research, writing, and courtroom skills that still define his practice today.

After earning his law degree, Colin served as a prosecutor for the Denver City Attorney’s Office. From there, he found his way to Grand Junction, where he worked in the Mesa County District Attorney’s Office for two years. Telluride became his next home; he was welcomed as an attorney in the San Miguel District Attorney’s Office.

During his time as a prosecutor, Colin prosecuted several felony and misdemeanor cases, many of which went to jury trial. He worked across several other counties in his then-Judicial District, including Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison counties. He was also called upon as a “special prosecutor” for several cases across other Judicial Districts in Colorado during this time.

After serving in several Colorado prosecutors’ offices, Colin transitioned to defense work and opened Law Offices of M. Colin Bresee in 1998. His background on both sides of the courtroom allows him to evaluate criminal cases with a practical understanding of how they are investigated, charged, and tried.

Colin has handled thousands of cases and conducted hundreds of jury trials, providing clients with seasoned courtroom judgment and trial preparation.
